Story

When I was a kid, I played peewee hockey on the outdoor rink at Laroche Park, in Mechanicsville in the west end of Ottawa. I was a goal keeper and this song relates different actual events, at least that's how I remember them.  Being a keeper is about attitude. You can't be concerned for your safety really (this was in pre-mask days) so you just throw caution out the window. And you can't be concerned about the last goal that went in. You just have to forget about it and focus on the next shot. So, not giving a f**k is virtue for a keeper!

Lyrics

I’m a keeper and I don’t give a fuck

I stand in the net and I stop the puck.

I’m a keeper.

Mike Lortie on a breakaway from centre ice

He’s barreling down the rink, I don’t think twice

He’s a mean motherfucker, he’s twice as big as me

So I come out to challenge and I turtle at his knees

He flies through the air, he won’t score tonight

My teammates come around to check if I’m alright

I’m a keeper and I don’t give a fuck

I stand in the net and I stop the puck.

I’m a keeper.

I’m standing in the net, the play is far away

The girls on the outer rink have come out to play

Hello girls, take a look at me

I don’t wear a mask, so you can see

My pretty boy swag, the coach yells "Get your head in the game!"

Turn around and make a save just the same

I’m a keeper and I don’t give a fuck

I stand in the net and I stop the puck.

I’m a keeper.

Now I’m paying attention, my feet are freezing cold

Move around a bit, I’m doing what I’m told

The puck is shot right at me, it’s coming at my face

I don’t know how to stop it’s in an awkward place

So I stick my neck right out and take it on the chin

One way or the other this puck ain’t getting in.

I’m a keeper and I don’t give a fuck

I stand in the net and I stop the puck.

I’m a keeper.
