Story

Wellington Street is the heart of the old west end. It's the main commercial artery, running from the train tracks to the east to where is becomes Richmond Rd. to the west. Everything happens on Wellington Street. The church, the recreational centre, the businesses, the bus service, all drew people out from the whole neighbourhood. It was a bustling, lively place fifty years ago, and so it is again today. I couldn't do an album about the old west end without a song about Wellington Street.

Lyrics

Wellington Street

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Meet all your buddies at West End Sweets

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Purple Cow.

Across the street from the Elmdale House

Fred and Eddie stopped me and punched me in the mouth

Eddie been drinkin’, they just ran away

It don’t really matter, I walk here every day

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Meet all your buddies at West End Sweets

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Reward Shoe store.

Stop and smell the coffee at the A&P

Hang out at the coin wash and check out who you’ll see

Here comes my baby, she’s goin’ to the Man

Can I buy you a cup of coffee honey, sure you can

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Meet all your buddies at West End Sweets

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Tai Hong Chinese.

Across the street from the Elmdale House

Fred and Eddie stopped me and punched me in the mouth

Eddie been drinkin’, they just ran away

It don’t really matter, I walk here every day

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Meet all your buddies at West End Sweets

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Upstairs at the United, to shoot a game of pool

Buddy comes a’runnin, he’s up to no good

Tried to steal stuff from the Neighbourhood

What’s up buddy, why you playin’ the fool

Just walk down Wellington Street and keep you cool

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Meet all your buddies at West End Sweets

Taking a walk down Wellington Street

Tai Hong Chinese.
